Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask before ordering a mosaic, answered in one place. If yours is not here, write and we will answer it.
Before you order
What is a BrickArt mosaic?
A picture rebuilt from LEGO® tiles, one flat square at a time, in a fixed set of brick colours. Up close you see every tile. From across the room the tiles disappear and the painting, portrait or photograph comes back.
How do I choose a size?
Every design is offered in a ladder of sizes, and the product page lists each one with its price. A bigger piece uses more tiles, so it holds more detail as well as covering more wall.
If you are unsure which suits a particular wall, email us a photo of the space before you buy and we will say what we would hang there.
Will it look exactly like the picture on screen?
It will match the design, and it will read a little differently. The tiles come in a fixed palette of real brick colours, while a screen can show any colour it likes and lights it from behind.
The returns page counts that difference as part of the medium rather than a fault, and says so before you order rather than after.
Can you build one from my own photo or logo?
Yes, and that is half of what we do. Try your picture in the designer first to see how it reads in tiles, then send the result and we reply with what the build would take.
What currency are the prices in?
United States dollars, with tax included in the price you see. Shipping is added as its own line once you pick a country in the basket, and any import duty is settled with your own country when the parcel lands.
Delivery
How long will it take?
Allow 8 to 10 weeks from ordering to the day it reaches you. Most of that is sourcing every tile your piece needs and building it by hand. The journey from New Zealand is the smaller part.
What does shipping cost?
It depends on where the piece is going and how big its box is, so the basket works it out once you choose the country. You see the figure before you pay, on a separate line from the mosaic itself.
Will I pay anything when it arrives?
Possibly. Many countries charge import duty or tax on artwork coming in from abroad, and that is collected from the receiver on arrival. It is not part of our price and we cannot pay it for you in advance. Delivery within New Zealand carries no import charge.
Can I order one for a particular date?
Give it at least 10 weeks. Paying more does not make the build any quicker, so there is no express option to offer.
If a birthday or an opening is closer than that, ask before ordering and you will get a straight answer about whether it can be done.
How does it arrive?
A larger mosaic travels as several sections, stacked in one box with a rigid sheet between each and bubble wrap all round. You join the sections together when it arrives, as each product page explains.
Can I track it?
Yes. Every parcel is tracked by the carrier, and we pass the tracking number on to you once your piece has left the workshop.
If something goes wrong
It arrived damaged.
Take photographs of the box and the damage before unpacking any further, and email them with your order number. We rebuild or refund it, and we do not ask you to send a damaged piece back first.
Loss or damage on the way is ours to sort out with the carrier, not yours.
It is not the design, size or background I ordered.
That is our mistake, and it is treated exactly like damage: tell us, send a photo, and we put it right at our cost.
I have changed my mind.
Email us at once. Until the tiles for your piece have been ordered, we cancel and refund the full amount. Once they have been, the piece is being built for you alone and cannot be returned for a change of mind. Faults are a separate matter and are always covered.
Looking after it
Will it fade?
Keep it out of direct sun. Strong daylight on the same wall year after year slowly dulls brick colours, and lighter tiles can take on a yellow cast. Indoor light does no harm.
How do I keep it clean?
A soft, dry brush or a microfibre cloth, worked gently across the surface, lifts dust out from between the tiles. There is no need for water or any cleaner.
Getting hold of us
How do I reach a person?
Email hello@brickart.nz. The person who reads it is the one who builds the pieces, and an order number in the subject line (it starts with BA) means the first reply can get straight to the answer.
Still stuck? Email hello@brickart.nz.
